[Koto Sanzan] Hyakusaiji Temple

“Koto Sanzan” refers to three Tendai sect temples : Saimyoji,Kongorinji, and Hyakusaiji. These temples are located east of the lake on the western side of the Suzuka mountain range, an area renowned for the beauty of its leaves in autumn.

[Hyakusaiji Temple]
This temple is lined with thick stone walls, giving it the atmosphere of a “mountain castle.” It is one of the oldest temples in Omi, having been built 1400 years ago by Prince Shotoku in the style of the “Ryuunji Temple” of the ancient Korean kingdom of Baekje (“Hyakusai” in Japanese).
