“Koto Sanzan” refers to three Tendai sect temples: Saimyoji, Kongorinji, and Hyakusaiji. These temples are located east of the lake on the western side of the Suzuka mountain range, an area renowned for the beauty of its leaves in autumn.
[Kongorinji Temple]
This temple was established by the Buddhist monk Gyoki by order of Emperor Shomu during the Nara Period. Stone steps lead from the temple gate to the main temple building, with the site still retaining its appearance from its time as a mountain stronghold to this day. The temple is also famous for its azaleas and rhododendrons.
