Kawazu-zakura is an early-blooming cherry blossom that starts blooming in early February.
It was first discovered in the town of Kawazu in 1972.
Taking advantage of Izu’s mild climate and its early-blooming characteristics, this variety of cherry blossom takes about a month to come into full bloom.
There are around 850 cherry trees along the Kawazu River and about 8,000 trees throughout the town overall.
During the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival, there are many street stalls, the cherry blossoms are lit up at night,
and a variety of events are held, bringing added excitement to the season.
The romantic atmosphere created when the cherry blossoms are lit up at night makes it a perfect location for a date.
* Blooming season: Usually from early February to early March.
* Full bloom lasts for about a week to ten days.
