Moon road & Kazemachi-fune

Moon Road, where the light of the full moon is reflected on the ocean’s surface.
The sight of the Kazemachi-fune (boats waiting for the wind),
the row of lights reflected onto the sea that is a feature of winter in Shimoda,
can be seen on the sea right in front of the Hotel.

These lights are from cargo ships that have anchored off Shirahama as they wait for the strong winter winds to abate.
There can be as many as 20-30 ships at any one time.
At night, the anchored ships turn on their lights, which create a beautiful night view that arises from the sea.
