Number 4 of the Kamakura Gozan.
Jochi-ji Temple is ranked fourth among the Kamakura Gozan and
is the trailhead of the Kuzuharagaoka-Daibutsu Hiking Course.
When it was first founded, many monks came from Song Dynasty China to teach there.
Extant structures such as the two-storied Shoromon bell-tower and gate and the Hondo, or main hall,
are reminiscent of the Chinese “Song-style” architecture of the times.
At the very rear of the temple grounds there is a statue of Hotei,
one of the seven gods of happiness of the Kamakura-Enoshima region.
It is said that rubbing Hotei’s belly will bring good health.
