Jufuku-ji Temple

Number 3 of the Kamakura Gozan.
Jufukuji Temple is only open to the public during certain special periods at New Year and
during the Golden Week period of public holidays in late April/early May.
Even then, visitors may only access the sando, or main temple approach up to the Chumon,
or middle gate. About 300 meters long, this approach is known as the most beautiful cobblestoned path in all of Kamakura.
This land, set against Genjiyama where Minamoto Yoriyoshi (an ancestor of the Minamoto clan) prayed for victory in battle,
has strong connections with the Minamoto clan. It was passed down for generations by the Minamoto clan, and Minamoto Yoshitomo,
father of Yoritomo, the founder of the Kamakura shogunate, is said to have had a residence there.
