Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine

One street away from Kamakura Station, you will see, Wakamiya Oji,
the approach leading to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
This elevated path from the second torii gate to the shrine is called dankazura and is lined on both sides by cherry trees and azalea.
The approach, stretching approximately 2 km is said to
have been constructed under the direction of the Shogun, Minamoto Yoritomo on behalf of his wife to pray for a safe birth.
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine features cherry and plum trees,
and the pond is almost carpeted in lotus flowers in the summer months.
In September visitors to the shrine can witness important festivals dating back to the Kamakura Period, such as Hojoe and Yabusame.
